|
The UK kept to
the same formula as '97 and almost pulled off a second victory in a very
close contest in Birmingham. Imaani
dented the chart a year later but hasn't been heard of
since. |
|
This
five-girl soft-spice band sang rather poorly in Jerusalem,
and soon after Jenny Frost left them to join Atomic
Kitten. But a sizeable UK chart hit it must be said. |
|
Nicki
had a US #2 and UK #5 with "Total Eclipse Of The
Heart" and her song was composed by two members of the
Glitter Band, yet this was the UK's worst result to
date. |
|
Sheffield
schoolgirl Lindsay had sung backup on tour with Paul
Carrack, and was so young that the BBC needed a special
licence for her to sing in Copenhagen! |

Touch My Fire - Javine |
| Jessica
was in the final 10 of the first Pop Idol and resoundingly
won the UK final in a fairly "starry" field.
A great vocal brought a merited 3rd place in
Tallinn. |
|
The
Liverpool duo came to grief in Riga with sadly poor vocals
after a good show at Song For Europe. Their good humour
through this episode is commendable. |
|
After the previous year's debacle the BBC recruited
experienced songwriters for a prime-time selection show. James
sang well in Istanbul but the song rather flopped. |
|
The BBC retained a similar
format for 2005 and recruited some bigger names than of late. A bad draw
and a slew of similar sounding songs meant a sad 22nd position in Kiev. |
