UK - 1974-81

1974   1975   1976   1977

Long Live Love - Olivia Newton-John   Let Me Be The One - Shadows    Save Your Kisses For Me - Brotherhood Of Man   Rock Bottom - Lynsey de Paul & Mike Moran
Just months before conquering America, Olivia was doing a cheesy Euro number in a blue nightie in Brighton. A high quality year when the top 3 all made the UK top 10.   Cliff's old backing band traveled to Stockholm and finished a close second, despite Bruce Welch fluffing his lines at the start of the song. Soon after, John Farrar left to produce Olivia.   After pipping Coco to victory in Song For Europe, the BOM conquered Europe and went on to more success with "Angelo" & "Figaro". 30 years later they are still performing with the same line-up.   Mike Moran was primarily a composer and record producer who has had a long career post ESC. Ms De Paul had many pop hits in the early 70s, latterly she too was a successful songwriter.
1978   1979   1980   1981

The Bad Old Days - Coco   Mary Ann - Black Lace   Love Enough For Two- Prima Donna   Making Your Mind Up - Bucks Fizz
Coco recovered from their 1976 disappointment to sing for the UK in 1978 but proceeded to land the worst UK result to date in Paris (11th). Featured a young Cheryl Baker.   Black Lace went ballistic in the 80s with party anthems like "Agadoo" & "Superman" but haw many know that their first stab at stardom was "Mary Ann" in the 1979 contest?.   Prima Donna were the ultimate Euro group. Interesting though because Kate Robbins went on to have chart success and Sally-Ann Triplett went on to further glory on the stage     A cheesy song and some  skirt-stripping brought the 4th UK victory. Much chart success followed with arguably better songs. Jay Aston left the group after some acrimony
