UK - 1957-65

1957   1959   1960   1961

All - Patricia Bredin   Sing Little Birdie - Pearl Carr & Teddy Johnson   Looking High High High - Bryan Johnson   Are You Sure - Allison Brothers
The first UK entrant was a star of musical theatre in the late fifties and early sixties. Her Eurosong remains the shortest ever at 1 minute 52 seconds.   Pearl and Teddy had a long career in the 1950s and were TV regulars in the UK. They have appeared at Eurovision fan conventions quite recently!     Teddy Johnson passed the UK baton to his brother Bryan for the first contest staged in the UK, at the Royal Festival Hall.  This light operatic number was his career highpoint.    The brothers beat of the likes of Craig Douglas and 1960 entrant Bryan Johnson to make the trip to Cannes for the 1961 event. Another (this time very close) 2nd place for the UK.

1962   1963   1964   1965

Ring-A-Ding Girl - Ronnie Carroll   Say Wonderful Things - Ronnie Carroll    I Love The Little Things - Matt Munro   I Belong - Kathy Kirby
Ronnie was a serious crooner who at one time blacked-up in a "Black And White Minstrel Style". He married actress Millicent Martin and maintained a successful career.    Mr Carroll became the only singer to represent the UK in consecutive years when he defeated (amongst others) Vince Hill & Anne Shelton in the 1963 UK final.   Matt's song was runner-up in Copenhagen but remains the only UK entry not to make  the UK chart and is rarely found on any  Matt compilation albums.   In 1965 the BBC decided on one artist to sing all the songs in the UK final. Kathy's biggest hit was  "Secret Love" in 1963. Sadly, her career waned after  Eurovision.

NB. The UK did not submit an entry in 1956 or 1958.
