This is an
attempt to rank a country's performance in Eurovision based upon every
result, not just wins. For each country, every placing received is divided
by the number of entrants that year to give a fraction. The total score for a decade/overall is then divided by the
number of times they competed in that time. Finishing 6/12 counts for the same as finishing
12/24; and countries who have
only competed rarely can be compared with evergreens.
NB. in order to
qualify for the overall table a country must have participated in at
least five finals; for the decade tables, two finals. Additionally,
countries which submitted entries in 1993, 1996, and since 2004 and failed
to make the final are given a fraction of 0.999. For each winning
song there is a bonus deduction of 1.000, which is why some countries
who did exceptionally well in a decade have a minus score!.
NB.
non-qualifiers have now been re-scored at 0.999 rather than
0.750 which has meant some slight movement from the 2007 figures
in addition to the 2008 result.
