Love Thy Neighbour

Ever since Eurovision began in 1956, certain countries have been inclined to vote for certain other countries.  In the old days the Francophone and Scandinavian nations in particular tended to favour each other.  Yet it was never guaranteed, and by the nineties it was only really the annual Greece/Cyprus lovefest that was a 99% certainty.   The advent of telephone voting has brought a great deal of good to the contest, it's made it more relevant to popular taste, and enthused viewers as they have total say in the outcome.  However, no-one can deny that it has also made the voting almost completely predictable in the case of many countries.

This page title alludes to neighbours but in all honesty diaspora (or ex-pats to you and me) is a far bigger factor as some countries have brazenly encouraged their economically exiled country folk to vote (and vote multiple times) for the fatherland. Anyway, as the EBU organizers don't seem to want to kill the golden goose of phone income, here's a look at what you can expect from each country in the phone vote (based on the last five years, i.e. since all entrants including non-finalists can vote):
